We decided we needed to scale back our sow herd with the price of feed and diesel these days. Therefore, we revamped our strategy and dropped the Berkshires for the time being to focus on what we do the best. We get to offer some exciting matings from some powerful pedigrees. Take a look through our expected litters and give us a call discuss your showpig or breeding stock needs.
Spot: B&B X (Free N' Easy x B&B)
Farrowed: August 3rd

You will notice that we are line breeding quite a few of our Spots and it will start our first litter of the year. B&B has worked well for us and many others on both the sire and dam side of the pedigrees, so when we were discussing what we wanted to breed this gilt to we found we were all thinking about using the old man. Sometimes you don’t need to find “new” boar and just what will work. He compliments this gilt in so many ways and is a known quantity. It isn’t like this gilt is a slouch and would have held her own at Belton. She is a littermate to the class winning barrow this year at San Antonio (pictured below) as also a full sib to the Champion Spot Barrow at OYE in 2010. Look for this litter to produce both outstanding gilts and barrows that will compete at every level of competition.
Spot: Transformer X (B&B x The Heat)
Farrowed: August 9th

This sow is the mother to the barrows below and will be the grandmother to litters 1 and 9 as well as the great grandmother to liters 7 and 8. Point is we have a lot of faith in both her phenotype and genotype. She was a good show gilt in her own right and had 3 littermates that were breed champions. If you see her today, she looks like a champion and we could walk out in a show ring today. So when we were trying to find a boar worthy of this sow, it was a very short list. It wasn’t just Transformer himself that put him on our list though he was the Champion Spot at Duncan last year. His sister (the Champion Gilt at Duncan) is one of the few elite spot gilts that I have seen. Transformer is wide, tall fronted, big boned, and super sound. Everything we are supposed to be looking for. I don’t know if there is truly a sure thing, but this is as close as you can come to a sure thing.

Duroc: Buzz X (Stickout x Red Rhino)
Farrowed: August 11th

Looking around, we didn’t see a lot of red boars we liked for this gilt at some of the bigger studs so we went off the beaten path. The guys at RAR Genetics have a really nice set of boars in their stud that a lot of people haven’t heard of. Buzz was the Reserve Champion at the Indiana State Fair last year from Joey Eggers. Buzz’s mother is the mother of God’s Gift at Shipley’s. Buzz is a more stylish barrow oriented boar than God’s Gift, but still has the mass and muscle we are looking for today. This Stickout female is a really nice looking female; attractive, mass, muscle and in a sound package. Pigs out of this matings will be have mass, bone, muscle, sound, and will also be stylish, something that has been missing in a lot of Durocs lately.
Chester: The Situation X (Bull's Eye x Sasquatch)
Farrowed: August 11th

We call this gilt Lost and Found. She is a phenomenal Chester gilt that has a story that is so odd, so unbelievable and so strange that it can only be true. We bred and sold this gilt last year. We were told by many hog jocks that she was the Chester gilt to beat at San Angelo and could contend for overall. We were prepared to pay a pretty penny to get her back and went to the show expecting to have to buy her back through the sale. When we showed up at San Angelo she wasn’t there so we had to ask what happened to her. She was clipped and ready to go the night before they were leaving out for San Angelo but when they went out to load her up in the morning she was gone. They looked for her everywhere around the Ag farm, but she wasn’t to be found. They had to leave out with the gilts they had and a young lady was heartbroken. Because the circumstance seemed unusual to say the least upon their return home, a reward was put out for the gilt or any information leading to the whereabouts of the gilt. The day after Belton the gilt mysteriously appeared back in a different pen at the Ag farm looking a little haggard. So now we have her back and were tasked with finding a boar to compliment her. We loved The Situation boar at Upper Hand Genetics and have always liked the Swamp Dog line of pigs for their soundness, style, bone, muscle and balance. The Situation was the $11,000 high seller at Belton in 2010. He has sired the Champion Chester at Fort Worth in 2011 amongst numerous other nice progeny. We are really looking forward to seeing this litter develop.
Duroc: Red Dirt X (Beer Goggles X Power Wheels)
Farrowed: August 13th

At Belton this year, there was only one Duroc boar that interested us. I guess lots of people liked him because he was named champion and was the high seller. You might remember a boar called Can’t Deny It that this firm walked out before. I think he did a pretty good job. This Beer Goggles gilt is a brood sow. The pedigree behind this brood sow has produced champions all over the place including for us and we expect that to continue on with this litter.
Spot: Razzmataz X (Salty Boogie X Free N' Easy)
Farrowed: August 13th

Here is another female that goes back to our B&B sow. With Salty Boogie being out of B&B and Razzmataz’s sire being B&B, we are winding this litter up pretty tight. The rest of the pedigree is pretty stout as well and the phenotypes of all involved here are really good and with Razzmataz’s sireing record so far, we are very confident in this mating. Look in here for some killer show pigs for the majors.
Spot: Times Square X (Salty Boogie X Free N' Easy)
Farrowed: August 22nd

Here is yet another female that goes back to our B&B sow. Her and her littermate above are a really nice pair of gilts that you would like no matter what color they are or which way their ears point. I have always liked the Blind Faith boar, but was never able to mate him up to a stress negative sow. So when we saw Times Square and his pedigree reading Blind Faith X B&B, we really wanted to make this mating. We get to try Blind Faith and line up B&B all in one shot on a really good female. These should be show pig supreme.
Spot: Kosher X (Free N' Easy x B&B)
Farrowed: September 1st

This gilt is a littermate to the Champion Spot barrow at OYE in 2010 and is a full sib to the class winning barrow San Antonio last year, both pictured below. She is the kind that we strive to raise. She is as stout as a gilt should ever be, big bodied with a lot of internal dimension, really sound and superb femininity. She laid down and did a nice job with her first litter. We retained 2 gilts out of that litter and they are the dams in litters 7 and 8 above. Looking to take her progeny to the next level we looked around and called a lot of people and the genetic match that intrigued us the most was Kosher at Purple Power. Sound, bone, muscle with lots of style, how can you go wrong here?
Duroc: War Eagle X (Power Wheels X High Performance)
Farrowed: September 8

Looking to amp it up a notch, we found the most out there Duroc boar we could find to put on this gilt. She is sound, functional, lots of body and had good muscle expression. War Eagle has that up headed cocky look to him that all winning barrows have. He is also super stylish with lots of eye appeal. We are expecting some really cool barrows here.
Chester: Beats Me X (Off the Hook X Bull Top)
Farrowed: September 17th

This gilt was the Reserve Chester Gilt at Fort Worth and followed that up with being the Reserve Chester Gilt at San Antonio. We think she was overlooked being behind the $8000 Champion Chester at Belton though she beat her at both Ft. Worth and San Antonio, but we are glad to get her home and have her work for us. She is a no holes kind of gilt that we like to have on our place. We have her bred to Beats Me from Wintex. When you ask them how they came up with that name, it was because when they were trying to figure out why he wasn’t higher in class or champion, all they could say was “Beats Me.” So someone is going to have to try hard to beat this litter of Chesters.
Spot: Maximum Capacity X (Salty Boogie X Maximus)
Farrowed: September 18th
I have always liked the boar Maximus but didn’t get to use him as much as I would have liked. So when I was going through the Team Purebred benefit action and found Maximum Capacity that was a Maximus X B&B, I knew he was the one for me. Huge boned and massive describe him best. This gilt littermates did a nice job including one barrow that was top ten at Duncan. When we lost her mom, we knew this gilt was never leaving the farm. We are anxiously awaiting this litter that is linebred to give is double shots of both Maximus and B&B.
Duroc: Headliner X (Double Denial x Stickout)
Farrowed: September 20th

I won’t bore you with a repeat about Headliner since I talked about him earlier, but we feel he is the one more people are going to wish they had used. This mating lines up the Can’t Deny It with both Buck Cherry (Headliner’s sire) and Double Denial going back to Can’t Deny It. The only thing this gilt needed to be really good was more mass and this mating will provide that and some.
Duroc: Headliner X (Buck Cherry X Mississippi Outlaw)
Farrowed: September 21st

Yes we believe in Headliner and once again we are linebreeding a mating. This time it is a little tighter with both this gilt and Headliner being out of Buck Cherry. This female was out of a small but competitive litter. There was only one boar in the litter and he was top ten at Duncan as a weanling. He went on to win reserve grand overall at a very competitive county show in Texas. This litter might be the last scheduled to hit the ground this year, but it is far from least in terms of expectations.
